THOMASVILLE — The trial of a man accused of rape and child molestation was continued soon after it began Tuesday morning.
Thomas County Superior Court Judge Harry Jay Altman continued until 9 a.m. today the trial of Richard Colvin, who was indicted in April on five counts of child molestation and one of raping a child.
Altman continued the trial shortly before noon to allow John Forehand, Colvin’s lawyer, to look at a document the state wanted to admit as evidence.
With the jury out of the courtroom, the judge heard from Forehand and Ray Auman, assistant district attorney, before continuing the trial.
The three-page indictment shows that on two occasions between January 1999 and May 2001, Colvin performed an immoral and indecent act with a female child under the age of 16.
The defendant also was indicted on a charge of child molestation involving the same type of act between May 1995 and September 1998 with another female child.
The document shows Colvin was indicted on another child molestation charge with a third female child. The incident occurred between June 1997 and September 1998, according to the indictment.
Count IV of the indictment accuses Colvin of child molestation on another female child between May 1995 and May 1997.
A different female child was the victim of child molestation by Colvin between July 2000 and October 2000, according to the indictment.
Colvin raped a female child between October 2000 and January 2001, the indictment shows.
