Event offers glimpse into past

OCHLOCKNEE — After nearly a year of planning and preparing, the Ochlocknee Community Civic Club, Inc., will host the 27th Annual Old South Day Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
“This is a chance to come and step back into time to experience yesteryear,” said publicity chairman Sharon Herring. “Old South is a salute and tribute to the past and to the blending of all heritages.”
Ochlocknee is home to about 650 people, yet the second Saturday of November each year turns the small town into a visiting ground for nearly 19,000.
Nearly 100 vendors, offering items such as wreaths and floral arrangements, plants, leathercrafts, toys, needlecrafts, woodcrafts and many others, are committed to attend the festival. A selection of culinary offerings including homemade sausage and biscuits with freshly-made cane syrup will also be on tap.
In addition there will be an old-fashion country fair, collectibles and antique exhibitors, a museum filled with historic items and the making of pure cane syrup.
The quilt drawing every years inspires many to try their luck in winning a future heirloom. The Quilt Sampler will be offered again this year for a $1 a donation.
Wayne Dollar is the grand marshal for the parade. The Honorary grand marshal is Doris Griffin.
The events begin at 9 a.m.
