Kirby Lee Bryant

Services for Kirby Lee Bryant, 58, Cairo, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Cairo. The Rev. Tommy McCormick and the Rev. Gary Holland will officiate and interment is in Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo. Mr. Bryant died Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. Born June 8, 1946 in Grady County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Annie Bell Dixon Bryant. On June 22, 1981, he married Faye G. Bryant of Cairo. He was a salesman in the wholesale food and drug industry, member of Toma Community Church and served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Faye G. Bryant; daughters, Gwen Bryant of Whigham, Crystal Ray of Cairo; son, James Bryant and wife, Nadine of Thomasville; grandchildren, Ashley Griner, Justin Bryant, Christopher Bryant and Johnathan all of Thomasville; stepchildren, Tommy McMillan and wife, Patricia, Stevie McMillan, Marie and John Cato, Laurie McMillan all of Thomasville, Donny McMillan of Cairo; grandchildren, Kristy, Kerwin and Jamie McMillan, Jason and Vann Cato; a great-grandchild, Marissa Cato; brothers, Buford Bryant of Bartow, Fla., Bobby Bryant of Tifton, Olen Bryant of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; sisters, Betty Shy of Thomasville and Linda Boyette of Cairo. Ethel Marie Smith Crawford

Services for Ethel Marie Smith Crawford, 49, 528 Ashlawn Drive, are at 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004 at First Missionary Baptist Church in Thomasville. The Rev. Dr. I.L. Mullins will officiate and interment is in St. Paul Cemetery. Active pallbearers are members of the Thomasville High School class of 1972 and 1973. Mrs. Crawford died Aug. 30 at Depaul Hospital in Norfolk, Va. Born Jan. 13, 1955 in Thomasville, she was a daughter of the late Guyte Smith Sr. and Marie Smith Thurman. She was a 1972 graduate of Thomasville High School and earned a bachelor of science in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha. She was a disabled registered nurse and had been director of nursing at Archbold Hospital. Survivors include her mother, Marie Thurman; stepfather, Jimmy Thurman of Thomasville; sons, Jerrone M. Crawford of Chesapeake, Va., Joby Crawford (Shan) of Edgefield, S.C.; granddaughters, Prentazia Crawford, Jobie Crawford both of Thomasville; grandson, Joby Crawford of Thomasville; sisters, Shelia Smith Driver (Eddie) of Virginia Beach, Va., Carolyn Thompson (Hiram) of Thomasville, Sandra Smith of Thomasville, Harriett Smith Harris of Thomasville; brothers, Guyte Smith Jr., Ira Flowers (Theodra), John Murphy, Lonnie Murphy (Johnnie) all of Thomasville; nieces, Karrea M. Timothy E. Robinson

Services for Timothy E. Robinson, 18, Thomasville, are at 3 p.m., Sept. 4, 2004 at Good Shepard Church, Oak Street, Thomasville. The Rev. James Knolton, Refuge Temple Apostolic Church, Ochlocknee will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are friends of the family. Mr. Robinson died Aug. 30 at his residence. Born March 11, 1986 in Thomas County, he was a son of the late Elder Arthur Robinson and Pastor Diane Robinson Toles. He was a member of True Vine Church. Doris Yvonne ‘Vonnie’ Scott Scruggs

Services for Doris Yvonne (Vonnie) Scott Scruggs, 53, 1972 Sanford Rd., Thomasville, are at 10 a.m., Sept. 4, 2004 at Ochlocknee Missionary Baptist Church, U.S. 319 South on Tallahassee Road. The James Herbert will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Douglass High School Class of 1969 and U.S. Filter employees. Honorary pallbearers are deacons and ministry of Ochlocknee M.B. Church. Mrs. Scruggs died Aug. 29 at her residence. Born June 7, 1951 in Thomasville, she was daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Scott. She was married to Ronald M. Scruggs. She was a member of Ochlocknee Missionary Baptist Church where she was announcer and a bookkeeper and full-time homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Ronald M. Scruggs of Thomasville; brothers, Willie James Scott of Clinton, Md., John C. Scott of Washington, D.C., Ernest Scott of Thomasville, Wayne B. Scott of Thomasville, Frank Scott of Tampa, Fla.; sisters, Berthene Small of Washington, D.C., Barbara Storey of Tampa, Fla., Joann Scott of Cleveland, Ohio; mother-in-law, Mary Scruggs of Miami, Fla.; aunt, Katie Bell Wilson of Thomasville; cousins, Thelma Jones, Woodrow Wilson both of Thomasville; scores of nephews, nieces, all of whom she adored along with a host of other family and members and friends. John Wesley Hines

Services for John Wesley Hines, 57, 1443 Sanford Rd., Lot 56, Thomasville, are at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004 at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, 431 S. Pinetree Blvd., Thomasville. The Rev. Willie Brown, pastor officiating, and interment is in St. Paul Cemetery, U.S. Hwy. 319 North in Thomasville. Active pallbearers are Willie Coston, Willie J. Spivey, Rudolph Jones Jr., Willie B. Sutton Jr., Homer Sutton, June Sutton and Mike Turner. Mr. Hines died Aug. 27 at his residence. Born July 4, 1947 in Thomas County, he was married to Betty Hilliard Hines and was a farmer. Survivors include his wife, Betty Hines of Coolidge; daughter, Theresa Hines of Thomasville; son, Terry Hines of Brooklyn, N.Y.; daughter, Emily Wheeler of Thomasville; sister, Carrie Roan of Thomasville; and brother, Willie C. Nell W. Phelps

Services for Nell W. Phelps, 91, Winter Haven, Fla. were at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004 at Crisp-Coon Funeral Chapel in Winter Haven. Interment is in Forest Hills Cemetery in Haines City. Mrs. Phelps died Aug. 31 at Tandem Health Care. A native of Vienna, Ga., she was a daughter of Riley Albert Washington and Annie Maryline Waldron. She lived in Thomasville prior moving to Davenport, Fla. in 1944. She was co-founder of Standard Sand and Silica Co. in 1944 with her husband, L.B. Carnes Jr. who preceded her in death in 1953. She later married George W. Phelps and he preceded her in death in 1982. She was a member of the Woman’s Club, Florida Woman Golf Association, Eastern Star and Lake Region Yaught and Country Club and member of Highlands Country Club in Highlands, N.C. Survivors include sons, L. Baylis Carnes III of Winter Haven, Gary W. Carnes of Lake Wales, Fla.; a daughter, Nellie Lawson of Winter Haven; a brother, Charles L. Washington of Thomasville; sisters, Mary Wills of Quitman, Betty Stringer of Metcalfe.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vivian Becky Phelps Dismuke in 1997. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. — Crisp-Coon Funeral Homes
