Evelyn Johnson Atkinson
Services for Evelyn Johnson Atkinson, 67, Cairo, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Cairo. The Rev. Ronald Bass, the Rev. Wayne Meadows and the Rev. Allen Hartsfield will officiate and interment is in Bold Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Atkinson died Thursday, March 7 at Archbold Hospital in Thomasville. Born Feb. 11, 1935 in Grady County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late George and Lillie Mae Faircloth Johnson. She was a homemaker, a lifetime resident of Grady County and a member of Hilltop Bible Baptist Church in Cairo. She was married to Rex Atkinson on Jan. 12, 1952, who survives, of Cairo. Other survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth George and Wanda Sue Atkinson of Cairo, Jeffrey Rex and Sandra Reeves Atkinson of Cairo; brothers, James Johnson, Ed Johnson both of Cairo, Henry Johnson of Chattahoochee, Fla.; a sister, Lois Nelson of Cairo; grandchildren, Beverly Louise Knight, Brian Kenneth Atkinson; and a great-grandchild, Nicholas Reid Knight all of Cairo. — Clark Funeral Home
Willie James Collins
Services for Willie James Collins, 72, Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Providence Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member. The Rev. Emory Virgil will officiate and interment is in Magnolia Cemetery. Active pallbearers are deacons of Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Collins died March 2 at Archbold Hospital. Born Nov. 7, 1928 in Moultrie, he was a son of Willie Mae Johnson and was married to Irene Brown Collins. He was a painter contractor and had lived most of his life in Thomasville. Survivors include his wife, Irene Collins of Thomasville; hismother, Willie Mae Johnson of Moultrie; a son, Billy (Mary) Grier of Albany; a daughter, Judy Jackson; brothers, Melvin (Mattie) Johnson of Miami, Fla., Elbert (Lisa) Enoch of Mariden; sisters, Jean (Willie Jr.) Sailor of Moultrie, Virginia Brown of Hartford, Conn.; aunt, Alice McBride of Moultrie; stepdaughters, Cornelia (Ray) Holland, Shirley Montgomery both of Jupiter, Fla.; stepsons, Elijah (Ella Mae) Brown of Thomasville, Mack Brown of West Palm Beach, Fla.; granddaughter, Banja Grier Pulliam of Germany; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jerry Wayne Howell
Services for Jerry Wayne Howell, 55, Pelham, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Braswell Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Kim Grueser will officiate and interment is in Pelham Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Larry Fackler, Larry Langley, Donald Robinson, Revis Davis, Gifford Flynt, John Thompson, Tommy Thomas and Chris Simmons. Mr. Howell died March 7 at Archbold Hospital in Thomasville. Born May 21, 1946 in Mitchell County, Ga., he was a son of Eloise Overton Howell of Pelham and the late Luther L. Howell. Mr. Howell was a member of Pelham First Baptist Church and a retired farmer. Survivors include a son, Robert W. Howell of Meigs; a daughter, Michelle L. Bailey of Camilla; three grandchildren; and his mother, Mrs. L.L. Howell of Pelham. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. — Braswell Funeral Home
Dorothy Hinson Sumner
Services for Dorothy Hinson Sumner, 88, Cairo, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2002 at First United Methodist Church in Cairo. The Rev. Richard Soper and the Rev. Ken Hall will officiate and interment is in Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo. Active pallbearers are Jay Bridges, David Bridges, Dan Bridges, Mort Hill, G.M. Joiner and Purvis Ponder. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Hall, Stanley Sumner, Carter Morton, Henry Davis, Paul Broome, Dr. C.K. Singleton, Franklin White, the Rev. Charles Culbreth, Dr. Jim Hester, the Rev. Tegler Greer, Ricky Singletary, Maurice Rykard and Robert Ready. Mrs. Sumner died Wednesday, March 6 at Grady General Hospital in Cairo. Born in Wheeler County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late James Albert and Pansy Braswell Hinson. She was married to J.T. Sumner who died Se
pt. 15, 1993. She and her husband owned and operated Sumner Hardware Company until their retirement and she was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cairo. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and James L. Oates, Katherine and Larry Cook all of Cairo; four grandchildren, Billy W. Oates of Atlanta, Robin Oates, April Cook, Crystal Cook all of Cairo; and a sister, Virginia Sikes of Alamo. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. — Clark Funeral Home
