Richard C. James II

Services for Richard C. James II, 84, 4306 Hall Rd., Thomasville, are at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, 4293 Hall Rd., Thomasville. The Rev. K.L. Boyd Sr., pastor officiating, and interment is in Springhill Cemetery. Active pallbearers are deacons and trustees of Springhill M.B. Church. Mr. James died March 9 at the Brian Center of Thomasville. Born March 2, 1918 in Thomas County, he was a son of the late Richard C. James I and Caroline Barnes James. He was married to Lula Mae Armster James, who survives, of Chester, Pa. He was a first class welder and had lived here for 19 years after having lived in Chester from 1945 until 1983. Mr. James served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged. He was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, member of NAACP and attended Springhill Community School. Other survivors include sons, Samuel Jones of Woodston, N.J., Elder Curtis James, Willingboro, N.J., Richard C. James III of Harrisburg, Pa.; daughters-in-law, Christine James of Woodston, Linda James of Willingboro, Mary Elizabeth James of Harrisburg; grandson, Anthony James; granddaughter, Tarah James; grandson, Omari Jones; granddaughters, Maria C. James, Kisha Pearsall; great-great-grandchild, Jordan James Pearsall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The viewing of Mr. James will be from 3 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday. — Hadley’s Funeral Home



Arthur McCord

Services for Arthur McCord, 89, Cairo, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Bethlehem AME Church in Cairo where he was a member. The Rev. Elzie Staten, pastor officiating, and interment is in Crestview Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Tommy Thomas, Loucious Lurry, Jim Baker Sr., Ronald Steward and Thornton Anderson. Mr. McCord died March 11 at Grady General Hospital in Cairo. Born in Cairo, he was the son of the late Milus and Della McCord. He was retired from the U.S. Army, attended Fort Valley State College and was pro-tem of the Trustee Board, Steward, Gospel and Senior Choir. Survivors include sisters, Lucille Williams of Cairo, Geneva M.Coats of Waycross; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. — Weston’s Funeral Home



Hayward Mitchell

Graveside services for Hayward Mitchell, 74, 1548 Airline Rd., Merrillville, are at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, U.S. Hwy. 84 East in Thomasville with James D. Graham presiding. Mr. Mitchell died March 9 at Archbold Medical Center. Born Sept. 30, 1927 in Dillion, Ga., he was a son of the late Elmo and Alena Mitchell. He attended Aucilla School and was a farmer. Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Peck; grandson, Jamlson Peck both of Tallahassee, Fla.; brothers, Lewis (Frances) Mitchell of Merrillville, Elmo (Gladys) Mitchell of Sarasota, Fla.; sisters, Cladie Calloway of Quitman, Hazel Carlo, Lillie Washington both of Beaver Falls, Pa., Betty (James) Monroe of Spartanburg, S.C., Margaret (Ira) Hollis of Merrillville, Angelina (Rudolph) Curry of Winter Haven, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The viewing of Mr. Mitchell will be from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. There will be no viewing Saturday at the graveside. — Hadley’s Funeral Home



E.L. (Possum) Pyles

Memorial services for E.L. (Possum) Pyles, 75, Whigham, are at 4 p.m., March 16, 2002 at Heritage Funeral Home chapel. Mr. Pyles died March 11 at Archbold Medical Center. Born Sept. 19, 1926 in Thomas County, he was a son of the late James Henry Pyles and Evie Sellers. He was married to Juanita Rehberg Pyles, who survives, of Whigham. Mr. Pyles served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 356. Other survivors include sons, Deryck Pyles of Thomasville, James Pyles of Merritt Island, Fla.; daughters, Katherine Elliott, Deveni Jacobs both of Ochlocknee, Patricia McElhaney of Tallahassee, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. — Heritage Funeral Home



Otis Walden Jr.

Graveside services for Otis Walden Jr., 66, 109 E. Merrill





St., Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Peaceful Rest Cemetery on north Pinetree Boulevard. The Rev. K.L. Boyd Sr. will officiate. Mr. Walden died March 11 at Archbold Medical Center. Born April 15, 1935 in Thomas County, he was a son of Anna Walden, who survives, and the late Otis Walden Sr. He was married to Bertha Louise Stephens. He was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, attended Greenwood School and was a tractor driver for Bush Ranch Nursery. Survivors include his wife Bertha Louise Walden; daughters, Wycender (Anthony) Thurman, Charlene McLaurin; his mother, Anna Walden; brothers, James (Gloria) Walden, Willie Walden, Charles Walden, Floyd Walden, Thomas Walden all of Thomasville; sisters, Louise (Samuel) Ivey Jr. of Thomasville, Annie B. (Bill) Tucker of Suitland, Md., Mary (James)Thomas of Thomasville, Diangela Walden of Thomasville; uncle, William Walden of Thomasville; aunts, Julia Walden, Annie Mae Hunter both of Atlanta, Georgia Revels of Thomasville, Flossie Walden of Thomasville; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
