Idus Johnny Stephenson
HARTSFIELD — Idus Johnny Stephenson, 100, of W.L. Hall Road, Hartsfield, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Sunrise Nursing Home, Moultrie.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at New Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Jessie Allegood and the Rev. Dion Brown. Casketbearers will be Jack Hall, Doug Hall, Wallace Hall, D.G. Hall, Lavone Hall, Junior Hall and Billy Hall. Deacons of New Bethel Baptist Church will serve as honorary casketbearers.
Mr. Stephenson was born March 24, 1902, in Colquitt County to the late Mollie Mae Bass Stephenson and the late Johnnie Moore Stephenson. He was a farmer and a member and deacon of New Bethel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mittie Kate Sizemore Stephenson, and one son, Roger Stephenson.
Survivors include two sons, John Stephenson and wife Faye of Meigs and Larry Stephenson and wife Anna of Hartsfield; two daughters, Doris Sumner and late husband Jim of Brunswick and Claudia Presley and husband Jack of Meigs; a daughter-in-law, Mary Stephenson of Hartsfield; one sister, Lucille Hawkins of Tifton; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Cobb Funeral Chapel. The family may be contacted at the home of Mary Stephenson, 111 W.L. Hall Road, Hartsfield.
The family will accept floral offerings or donations may be made to the New Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund.
Cobb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Minnie Lee Love Glenn
Services for Minnie Lee Love Glenn, 87, Thomasville, are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at Clifford Temple CME Church, with the Rev. U.A. Hammonds officiating. Interment is at Magnolia Cemetery with stewards of Clifford Temple Church as active pallbearers. Mrs. Glenn died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. A Thomasville resident for 68 years, she was born Oct. 21, 1914, in Meigs, a daughter of the late Elliott and Etta Bowdry Cove. Mrs. Glenn was a private-duty nurse. She was married Nov. 9, 1934, to John W. Glenn. She was a member of Clifford Temple CME Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Glenn is survived by a niece, Essie Thomas, Tallahassee, Fla.; a great-nephew, Carl Williams (Brenda), Tallahassee; a great-niece, Vianne Devine, Tallahassee; a cousin, Ruby Barkley, Camilla; and a host of other relatives and friends. The remains will lie in state at the church from noon until the funeral hour, with no viewing after the eulogy. — Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home
Obern Copeland
Services for Obern Copeland, 81, a former Cairo resident, are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug., 13, 2002, at Barnetts Creek Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Mr. Copeland died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, in Allentown, Pa. He was born in Thomas County May 25, 1921, a son of the late George and Nellie Mims Copeland. Mr. Copeland was associated with West Packing Co. and a member of Barnetts Creek Baptist Church. He served in he The U.S. Army during World War II. He was married to Willie Ponder Copeland, who died in 1989. After her death, he married Helen Willis Dyess Copeland, who died in 2001. Mr. Copeland is survived by a daughter, Angela Knight, Whigham; a son, Randall Calvin Copeland, Allentown; a sister, Neva Godwin, Ochlocknee; a stepdaughter, Freda Laxson Raymond, Mississippi; grandchildren, Lorie Knight Hatcher, Albany, David Copeland, John Copeland, Reagan Copeland, all of Allentown. — Clark Funeral Home
