Lois Hester Burt Fleetwood

Services for Lois Hester Burt Fleetwood, 79, Cairo, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at Midway Baptist Church in Cairo. The Rev. Dr. Kenneth Cloud will officiate and interment is in Greenwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers are grandsons, Bob Burt, Jim Burt, Chris Burt, Jason Phillips, Bert Brinkley and Mark Warren. Honorary pallbearers are Al Lewis, Jackie Fleetwood. Mrs. Fleetwood died Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, Fla. Born July 19, 1926, in Grady County, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Clifford Lee Green Hester. She was married to Ivy Cecil Burt who died Nov. 25, 1957 and later married Johnnie Fleetwood of Cairo who survives. She was a lifetime resident of this area, operated a hair salon in Cairo for the past 32 years and member of Midway Baptist Church in Cairo. Other survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Leland Justice of Fitzgerald, Barbara and Gary Howington of Byron, Debra Phillips of Cairo; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Jane Burt of Lynn Haven, Fla., Jimmy and Vickie Burt of Valdosta, Keith and Diana Burt of Jacksonville, Fla., Richard Burt of Houston, Texas; stepson, Jackie and Terri Fleetwood of Bainbridge; sisters, Dorothy Lewis, Mattie Lee Day both of Cairo; brother and sister-in-law, Willie Hester Jr. and wife, Phyllis of Haines City, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., today at the funeral home. — Clark Funeral Home



Carroll Godwin

Services for Carroll Godwin, 75, Cairo, are at 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, at Pine Level Baptist Church in Cairo. The Rev. Jim Weaver will officiate and interment is in Pine Level Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Ashley Bryan Jr., Carroll Bryan, Jackie Bearden, Jeffrey Bearden, Jody Norton and John Howard Harrison. Honorary pallbearers are Dexter Harrison, Randell McGlamery, Donald Lee Womble, J.W. Harrison, Pete Horton, Levy Horton, Phillip Drew and Jerry Dollar. Mr. Godwin died Sept. 28 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, Fla. Born March 29, 1930, in Grady County, he was a son of the late Judson and Verna Palmer Godwin. He was a lifetime resident of Grady County, a retired truck driver for Drew Oil Company and a member of Pine Level Baptist Church where he was active in the Young at Heart. On Oct. 22, 1960, he married Inez Dollar Godwin of Cairo who survives. Other survivors include daughters, Becky Baggett of Cairo and Clara Nell Morgan of Elkin, N.C.; son, J.D. Norton of Cairo; daughter-in-law, Kay Norton of Cairo; sister, Lavern Patterson; brothers, Lannis Godwin, Adrian Godwin all of Tallahassee; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Curtis Hightower

Graveside services for Curtis Hightower, 45, Boston, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at Boston Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Hightower officiating. Mr. Hightower died Monday, Sept. 26 at Archbold Hospital. Born July 23, 1960 in Brooks County, he was a son of Sanders Hightower and Bertha Simmons Hightower. He was married to Tracey Simmons who preceded him in death. He had lived most of his life in Thomas County and was a laborer at Fallin’s Bar-B-Q. Survivors include a daughter, Nicole S. Hightower of Thomasville; sons, Anthony Hightower, Demetrius Hightower both of Thomasville; sisters, Bertha Hightower, Patricia Hightower, Shirley Newkirk all of Boston, Lillie Ruth Gosier, Beulah Hightower, Willie M. Pettis, Emma Lou Garbo all of Thomasville; brothers, L.H. Hightower of Boston, Richard Hightower, Henry Hightower both of Thomasville; devoted friend, Rosetta Mills of Boston; and numerous relatives and friends. William ‘Tony’ Mike

Services for William “Tony” Mike, 51, Tampa, Fla., are at 1 p.m., Oct. 1, 2005 at Mount Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Thomasville. The Rev. Derrick Mike, Blooming Light M.B. Church, Pelham and Elder Larry Brown, St. Luke Primitive Baptist Church, Reno will officiate. Active pallbearers are members of the Thomasville High School Class of 1971 and nephews. Mr. Mike died Sept. 25 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. Born Jan. 13, 1954 in Tampa, he was a son of Mae E. Mike and Willie Lee Mike Sr. He was a 1971 graduate of Thomasville High School and a member of Bible Base of Tampa. He had lived in Tampa for 20 years after moving in Thomasville. He retired in the Army after 10 years and was office assistant in purchasing and traveling at the University of South Florida College of Public Health. Survivors include his mother, Mae E. Mike of Thomasville; father, Willie Mike of Tampa; daughters, Angela (Rodney) Thomas of Mapleville, Ark., Monica (Bryant) Griffin of Pinebluff, Ark.; granddaughters, Gabriele Armstrong of Pinebluff, Ark.; grandson, Marcus Bowman of Pinebluff, Ark.; sisters, Mae R. Mike (Johnny), Cheryl (Harold) Harrison, Phyllis Scott all of Thomasville, Carolyn M. Marshall, Gail (Albert) Kuit both of Tampa, Fla.; brothers, Michael (Chandra) Hayward of Tampa, Kenneth Mike of Albany; aunt, Mattie (Jack) McBride of Thomasville; two uncles, Sam and Willie C. Brown of Thomasville; three great-aunts, Sarah King, Agnes Ward both of Thomasville, Annie Robinson of Columbus; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters, Annie Ruth Mike Crews and Margie Mike Thompson. The viewing is from 2 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and 11 a.m. until the funeral hour Saturday at the church.
