Vera Viola Davis

Services for Vera Viola Davis, 96, of Cairo, are at 1 p.m., Monday, March 15, 2004 at Big Creek Baptist Church in Coolidge. The Rev. Dewitt Rehberg will officiate and internment is at Little Ochlocknee Baptist Church. Ms. Davis died Friday, March 12 in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Survivors include daughter Verlon Ellis and her husband Jerold of Fernandina Beach, Florida; son John Griner and his wife Kathy of Gainesville, Florida; two sisters, Eunice Ferullo of Deland, Florida and Reba Seals of Coolidge; brother, W.B. (Dub) Allen of Thomasville; grandchildren George Whitley, Patricia Croft, Daniel Whitley, Russell Griner, David Griner, Wade Griner and Josh Griner; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 14 at Heritage Funeral Home in Cairo. — Heritage Funeral Home.



William D. Hickey

Services for William D. Hickey, 77, of Meigs, are at 3 p.m., Monday, March 15, 2004 at Braswell Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Nathan Fowler will officiate assisted by Rev. Dennis Norman will officiate and internment is in Meigs Cemetery. Mr. Hickey died Friday, March 12 at his home in Meigs. Active pallbearers are Gene Hickey, Shelby Hickey, Rodney Hickey, E.W. Hickey, DeWain Humphries and Freddie Williamson. Born May 16, 1926 in Thomas County, he was the son of the late E.A. and Susie Mae Hickey. Mr. Hickey was an insurance agent and, with his son, Derwood, owned and operated Hickey Insurance, Inc. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church in Meigs where he served as Council Member and Mayor. Under his direction, many improvements were made for the Town and its citizens. While he was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, during World War II, he met his future wife, Norma Koppelman Hickey. At the time of her death, they had been married 51 years. He is survived by two sons, Derwood and his wife Sharen of Meigs and Robert W. Hickey of Acworth; one daughter, Kathy K. Hickey Fain of Tallahassee, Florida; grandchildren, Scott Fain of Apalachicola, Florida, Bruce and Chantel Fain of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Angelia Strickland and husband Ray and son Zachary of Waycross, Jessica Walker and husband Phillip of Valdosta, and Barry Hickey of Meigs; brother-in-law, William Koppelman and wife Ellie of Austin, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Prino of Hitchcock, Texas and Maudie Sue Hickey of Meigs; several nieces and nephews in both Georgia and Texas. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Delma H, Norman, Eldon Hickey, Vernon Hickey, Harry W. Hickey and great-granddaughter, Skylar Madison Fain. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Gideons International Ministry and the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 14 at Braswell Funeral Home in Pelham — Braswell Funeral Home.
