Wayne DuBose

Services for Wayne DuBose, 52, 3953 Rocky Ford Rd. in Coolidge, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at Silver Hill Missionary Baptist Church, U.S. Hwy. 319, Coolidge. The Rev. Dr. Warren Hope and the Rev. Alex German will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are members of the Class of 1970 Magnolia High School. Mr. DuBose died Dec. 12 at Archbold Medical Center. Born Oct. 19, 1951 in Thomas County, he was a daughter of Essie Mae DuBose and the late Marshall DuBose. He was married to Barbara J. Killens DuBose. He is a 1970 of Magnolia High School and a 1972 graduate of Thomas Tech where he learned his trade as a brick mason. Mr. DuBose was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, was a brick mason and lifetime resident of Thomas County. Survivors include his wife, Barbara DuBose of Coolidge; daughters, Stephanie Killens DuBose of Albany, Vanessa DuBose of Valdosta, Kimberly DuBose of Coolidge; his mother, Essie Mae DuBose of Coolidge; his twin brother, DWayne DuBose of Coolidge; a sister-in-law, Linda DuBose of Coolidge; nephews, Dwayne DuBose Jr., Nicholas DuBose both of Atlanta; aunts, Savannah Burkes of Thomasville, Caretha Hill of Coolidge, Johnnie Mae (Herschel) Rogers, Angeline (Valgene) Presley of Willacoochee; uncle, Otis (Willa Mae) Wilson of Brunswick; sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Marion) Norris of Valdosta, Deborah (Raymond) Ellis of St. Louis, Mo.; brothers-in-law, James (Sherrie) Killens of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ronald (Carolyn) Killens of Thomasville; many cousins and friends. The viewing is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church. Granvil L. Emanuel Jr.

Services for Granvil L. Emanuel Jr., 81, of Thomasville, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at First Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. I.L. Mullins and Mr. Emanuel’s grandson the Rev. Elve Jones will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Mr. Emanuel died Dec. 15 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 26, 1922 in Decatur County, Ga., he was a son of Estell Wilson Emanuel and Granvil L. Emanuel Sr. He was married to Mary McGinnis Emanuel in Jackson, Miss. and she preceded him in death in 1980. He was a self-employed accountant and retired educator, member of Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church of Fowltown and member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II serving in India and Burma as a staff sergeant. He was honorably discharged and came back and taught ROTC at Jackson State College in Jackson and business classes at Campbell College at Jackson. He was educated in Decatur County schools and a graduate of Fort Valley State College. He had lived in Thomas County since 1967. Survivors include daughters, Betty E. Jones of Thomasville, Roberta Emanuel of Thomasville, Nancy L. Johnson of Cairo, Gwendolyn E. Green of Sanford, Fla.; sister, Katie L. Beecham of Tallahassee, Fla.; devoted nephew and niece, Morris and Frances Williams of Thomasville; nieces, Granzaline Miller, Doris Williams; nephews, Prince A. Emanuel Jr., Granvil Emanuel III, Gary Emanuel, Masters Ford Sr.; grandchildren, the Rev. Elve Jones, Kathy, Elvis, Angela, Carlos, Andrienne, Chiquita, Kendrick, Patrice, Tannisha, Jermaine, Isaiah, Kala, Andrea, Vonetta and Fredrick; 13 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; godsons, Larry Reynolds and Jerry Grooms. Preceding him in death was a daughter, Angelia Maria Emanuel in 1997; and mother-in-law, Nancy Smith McGinnis on Feb. 13, 2003 in Kansas City, Mo. Wilma Castleberry Jones

Services for Wilma Castleberry Jones, of Tallahassee, Fla., are at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Billy Southerland will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Jones died Monday, Dec. 15 at Heritage Healthcare Center in Tallahassee. Born July 27, 1926 in Thomas County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Joseph Melvin Castleberry and Lizzie Maude Southerland Castleberry. She was a homemaker, member of New Ochlocknee Baptist Church and lived most of her life in Thomasville. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Jones Bauer of Cupertino, Calif.; grandsons, Dave Jones of Tampa, Fla., Chris Jones of Tallahassee, Fla., Joey Bauer of Cupertino; nieces, Jodi Riley of Tallahassee, Wendy Griner of Valdosta; nephews, Don Flowers of Moultrie and Chris Cleveland of Valdosta. Estelle Elizabeth McLendon

Services for Estelle Elizabeth McLendon, 79, of Quitman, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at Maxwell-Miller Chapel with the Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Interment will follow in Longbridge Cemetery in Nashville. Mrs. McLendon died Thursday, Dec. 18 at Archbold Hospital. Born in Irwin County, Ga., she was the daughter of Earl and Clara Barber Shealey. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Quitman. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Pete Williams of Quitman; three granddaughters, Darlene (Gustavo) Munoz, Missy (Russ) Storey, Michelle (Keith) Reynolds; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Hurst of Quitman; and Myrtice Fykes of Thomasville. Bertha Smith Robertson

Graveside services for Bertha Smith Robertson, Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at Pelham City Cemetery in Pelham. The Rev. Jimmy Smith will officiate. Mrs. Robertson died Wednesday, Dec. 17 at her residence. Born Dec. 2, 1913 in Pelham, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Smith and Fannie Mae Stephens Smith. She was married to James Robertson who preceded her in death in 1965. She was a member of Thomasville First United Methodist Church and a retired secretary from Searcy Insurance Agency. Survivors include a son, William Ervin (Rob) Robertson of Tallahassee, Fla.; sisters, Frances Harris of Johns Island, S.C., Eleanor Barr of Tampa, Fla.; and a brother, James Robert Smith of Pelham. Robert Edwards Simmons Jr.

Services for Robert Edwards Simmons Jr., 70, Cairo, are at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20, 2003 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Cairo. The Rev. Tegler Greer will officiate and interment is in Pine Level Cemetery in Cairo. Active pallbearers are Royce Prince, Ray Barrett, Carlos Barrett, Don Nichols, Jackie Barrett and Bobby Stuckey. Mr. Simmons died Dec. 17 in Snellville. Born March 16, 1933 in Atlanta, he was a son of the late Lewis Ralph and Winter Randall Simmons. He was married to the former Carolyn Barrett of Grady County who died Dec. 16, 1996. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, member of Glen Memorial United Methodist Church and a retired telecommunications engineer for BellSouth. Survivors include his sons, Robert E. Simmons Jr. of Portland, Ore., Christopher B. Simmons of Loganville; daughter, Lesley Kay Simmons-Wright of Ellijay; a brother, Paul S. Simmons of Trussville, Ala.; grandchildren, Mitchell Simmons, D.R. Simmons both of Portland, Ore., Barrett Simmons, Grady Simmons both of Loganville; great-grandchildren, Ian Coy Simmons of Portland and Tina Rene Simmons of Portland. — Clark Funeral Home
