Earl Young

Services for Earl Young, 84, of Thomasville are at 3 p.m. today, Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Thomasville First Baptist Church Chapel. Dr. Milton C. Gardner and Dr. Dan Spencer will officiate, and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Harold Jackson, Vince Ponder, Richard Poulk, Douglas Williams, Bob Young and Ellis Young. Honorary pallbearers are P.C. Andrew’s Sunday School Class and the Golden K Club. Young died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Grady County Memorial Hospital. Born June 30, 1919, and raised in Metcalf, he was the son of the late Ellis Bayard Young and Ola (Pink) Swift Young, and lived in Thomasville for 64 years. He worked at the Colonial Store Warehouse for 36 years and was a member of the Golden K Club, and the First Baptist Church of Thomasville. On Feb. 28, 1941, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and was trained as an airplane mechanic at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, and in Seattle, Washington. He worked on airplanes while stationed on the island of Saipan during the air offensive against Japan in World War II. After proudly serving his country for four years and eight months, he received an honorable discharge on Oct. 30, 1945. On Jan 18, 1948, he married Ella Frances Collier Young, who survives him, at Thomasville First Baptist Church. Other survivors include two daughters and sons-in law, Judy and Eddie Mirick of Albany, Janice and Larry Ponder of Thomasville; three granddaughters, Jennifer and Gina Mirick of Albany and Rachel Ponder of Thomasville; step-granddaughter Tracy and Paul Lipsey of Thomasville; step-grandson Vince and Amy Ponder of Thomasville; step-great grandchildren Tyler and Clark Lipsey, Ellen Ponder of Thomasville; twin brother and sister-in-law Ernest and Lell Young; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers George Ellis Young, James Richard Young, Samuel Bayard Young, Homer Ansel Young, Albert Swift Young, infant brothers and a sister, Mary Hellen Young Williams. — Whiddon-Shiver



Dannie McGill

Graveside services for Dannie McGill, 56, 904 Lester St., are at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004. Mr. McGill died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Archbold Medical Center. A Thomasville native, he was born Feb. 15, 1948, a son of the late Allen and Goldie McGill. Mr. McGill was a disabled service technician. He lived in Thomasville most of his life. A Douglass High School graduate, he earned a B.A. degree at Savannah State College. Survivors include brothers, Allen McGill, Dallas, Texas, David McGill Jr., Thomasville; a sister, Ruth McGill, New York, N.Y.; many nieces and in-laws; and a host of other family and friends. — Hadley’s Funeral Home
