Hazel Estelle Sheppard Flowers
POWDER SPRINGS — Ms. Hazel Estelle Sheppard Flowers, 87, of Powder Springs, formerly of Norman Park, died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with Elder Homer Benefield and the Rev. Phillip Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Grandsons of Ms. Flowers will serve as casketbearers. Born April 28, 1916, in Cleburne County, Ala., Ms. Flowers was the daughter of the late Carrie Ellen Henley Sheppard and George Frank Sheppard. She was a homemaker and of the Primitive Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Flowers; a daughter, Betty June Smith; and a son, James Edward Flowers. Survivors include a son, Billy Flowers and wife Mary of Cairo; two daughters, Pat Mercer and husband Mike of Norman Park and Bonnie Flowers of Powder Springs; a son-in-law, Dr. Amos Smith; a brother, Jeff Sheppard of Anniston, Ala.; a sister, Lois Stanson of Opelika, Ala.; nine grandchildren, Frankie Flowers, Tommy Flowers, Betsy Eunice, Jamie Mercer, Dr. Allen Smith, Nancy Eason, Eddie Flowers, Stanley Flowers and Carrie Mercer; 17 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral chapel. The family may be contacted at 823 George Flowers Road, Norman Park. Hazel S. Atkinson
Services for Hazel S. Atkinson of Thomasville are at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2003 at Dawes Presbyterian Church. The Rev. James B. Spenser will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Born July 1, 1936 in Thomas County, Atkinson was the daughter of the late Clyde Sculley and the late Myrtice Mathis. On Sept. 15, 1976, she married Edward (Eddie) Eugene Atkinson who survives. Atkinson was a life-long resident of Thomasville and a homemaker. She was a member of Dawes Presbyterian Church. Other survivors include a son and daughter -in-law Christopher J. and Patricia Atkinson, grandchildren Adam and Eric Atkinson, sister Elizabeth Manning, aunt Dorothy Rehberg, all of Thomasville, and loving friends and family of Dawes Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Tony Eugene Atkinson, on Jan. 28, 2003. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church prior to the service. Maurine Salter Dugger
Services for Maurine Salter Dugger, 89, of Worth County, are at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004 at First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. The Rev. A. Bob Dixon will officiate. Born Jan. 1, 1915 in Worth County, Dugger was the daughter of Floyd Mimms Salter and Marcia Jones Salter. She died April 22, 2004 at Magnolia Manor in Americus. Dugger, a retired accountant is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Curtis Dugger, a son, John Leonard Dugger and a brother, Charles E. Salter. She is survived by grandchildren Leonard Howard Dugger of San Francisco and Deborah Maurine Dugger of Washington D.C. Calvin Swilley Jones
Services for Calvin Swilley Jones, 91, are at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Rosewood Cemetery in Barwick. Born March 15, 1913 in Brooks County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Harris and Floyce Swilley Jones. He was a retired farmer, businessman and banker, and was a former member of Brooks County Farm Bureau board of directors. He also served as Kiwanis Club president and district governor. He was a member of Barwick Baptist Church where he served as deacon and as organist for more than 40 years. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the European campaign. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Bowlan Jones of Barwick, one son, Fred C. Jones (Sandra) of Colquitt County; three grandchildren, Carrie Jones Lee (Simon) of Valdosta, Ben Jones of Barwick and Suzanne Jones of Austin, Tex.; three step-grandchildren, Greg Yarbrough (Roxanne) of Moultrie, Amy Y. Webb (Tony) of Thomasville, David Yarborough (Nancy) of Woodstock and four step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Herbert H. Jones, McDonough and Thomas P. Jones, of Quitman; a sister, Marguerito Smallwood of Warner Robins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Carmichael of Quitman, brothers Emory Jones of Barnesville, Troup Jones of Greensboro, B.H. (Red) Jones, Jr. of Moultrie.
