Bill Baxley

Memorial services for Bill Baxley, 47, Woodruff, S.C., are at 1p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001 at the First Baptist Church of Woodruff, with the Rev. Andrew Shull officiating. Mr. Baxley died Wednesday, August 1, 2001. A native of Columbus, he was the son of Col. U.S. Army-Retired William Joshua Baxley Jr. of Conway, S.C. and the late Margaret Carolyn Wood Baxley. He was assistant vice president and loan servicing officer for Transamerica Small Business Capital in Greenville, S.C. He was a 1975 graduate of Clemson University with a B. A. degree. He was a member of American Bankers Association and was a member of Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Woodruff Area Development Association (WADA). He formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Cherokee County, the Gaffney Country Club, and Landmarks Inc (Historic Association in Thomasville). He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodruff. Survivors include his wife, Pamela Willis Baxely of the home; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Baxley of Spartanburg; sons, William Joshua Baxley of St. Louis, Mo., and Joseph Edward Baxely of Conway; brother, John Green Baxley of Ponte Vedre Beach, Fla.; and one granddaughter. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital, Charleston, S.C. or Building Fund of the First Baptist Church of Woodruff, 801 Cross Anchor Road, Woodruff, S.C. 28388.–J. Emma Buchanan Whaley

Services for Emma Buchanan Whaley, 81, 115 South Pinetree Boulevard, Thomasville, are at 11a.m. Monday, August 6, 2001 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 300 Harris Street, Thomasville, with the Rev. Curnell Henry, Pastor officiating. Burial is at Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Active pallbearers are her great nephews, and friends. Honorary pallbearers are deacons of Shiloh M.B. Church. Mrs. Whaley died Thursday, August 2, 2001 at Archbold Medical Center. Born August 26, 1919 in Terrell County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Lizzie Buchanan. She was married to the late Booker Whaley. She lived in Dawson before living in Thomasville for 54 years. She was a homemaker and attended Terrell County Elementary School. She was a member of Shiloh M.B. Church and served on the usher board. Survivors include nieces, Ethel Everett of Thomasville, Lizzie Mae Dotson of Dawson, Helen B. Vanover of Dawson, and Lillie Buchanan of Dawson; nephews, James Buchanan of Thomasville, Bill Buchanan of Trenton, N. J., Frank Buchanan of Fort Worth, Texas, Lucious Buchanan Jr. of Dawson, Willie Buchanan of Tuscumbia, Ala., William Buchanan of Springfield, Va., Ulysses Buchanan of Marietta, Curtis Buchanan of Fort Washington, Md., and Kenneth Buchanan of Decatur; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews, cousins, and friends.–Hadley’s Funeral Home.
