John Quinton Skeen

Services for John Quinton (Jeff) Skeen, 81, a resident of Westside Terrace, Dothan, Ala., formerly of Abbeville, Ala. are at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002 in the Holman-Headland Mortuary chapel with the Rev. Dave Collins officiating. Interment is in Bluff Springs Baptist Cemetery near Ashford. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside. Active pallbearers are Scott Battles, Vince Brackin, Neil Brackin, John Carter Skeen, Bubba Hall and Michael Ballard. Mr. Skeen died Tuesday, Oct. 15 in Westside Terrace. He was born and reared in the Union community of Henry County, the son of the late William Ellis Skeen and Cleo Whitehead Skeen. He lived most of his adult lifetime in Dothan but had also lived in Cowarts. For the past several years, he lived in Southdale Apartments in Abbeville. He was a retired employee of Cosby-Hodges Milling Co. in Dothan and was of the Baptist faith. An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Skeen served in the Northern Solomons and Luzon. He received the APTO Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and also the World War II Victory Medal. Survivors include his wife, Mabel Rhodes Skeen a resident of Extendicare Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dothan; a daughter, Cheryle S. Brackin and her husband, Gary Brackin of Webb, Ala.; two sons, John W. Skeen and his wife, Angela D. Skeen of Thomasville, Jeff Skeen and his wife, Carla Skeen of Cowarts, Ala.; two step-daughters, Linda Fowler and her husband, Tim Fowler of Brantley, Ala., Dean Ray and her husband, Phillip Ray of Opp, Ala.; a step-son, Ray Davis of Enterprise, Ala.; special sister-in-law, Sue White; special niece, Lisa Kima; special friends, Marvin and Jean Culpepper of Abbeville; 10 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nine step-great-grandchildren. — Holman-Headland Mortuary
