James E. Turner

Retired Master Sgt. James Turner, joined the Lord Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 at home in the presence of his loving family. Mr. Turner was born May 29, 1921 in DuBois, Pa., the youngest of eight children of James E. Crawford and Elsie Turner Crawford and adopted parents, Allen Hunter Turner and Lydia Sterrett Turner. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. where he served as chairman of the board of trustees, member of the finance committee and member of The Searchers Class. He was also a mall walker, a Boy Scout leader and received the Order of the Arrow Award. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1941 to 1961 and in Civil Service at Eglin Air Force Base from 1961 to 1981. In 1944, he married Helen E. DuPre of Thomasville and they were married for 57 years. He was the loving father of four daughters, Cathy E. Boeker of Mary Ester, Fla., Judy E. Schlidt of Thomasville, Cheryl E. Turner of Greeley Co., Janice E. Wilson of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, A.J. Grant, Jeremy Grant, Becky Dickens, Mandy Wilson, Eric Wilson; great-grandson, Dustin Dickens; in-laws, Lucile Monk, Janet and Claude Parramore, Jean DuPre all of Thomasville, Jane Tatro of Hastings, Neb. and a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. The family extends their gratitude to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and Covenant Hospice for their special care and compassion. Howard Wayne Hood
Services for Howard Wayne Hood, Thomasville, are at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2003 at Summerhill Baptist Church with Rev. Mitch Clements officiating. Mr. Hood died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born Aug. 29, 1944 in Houlka, Ms., he was the son of Johnnie Hood and Margie Lucille Cooper Hood. Mr. Hood was a salesman for The Home Place and Custom Qualities. He was a U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran and a member of Summerhill Baptist Church. He married Marsha Brock, who survives, on April 14, 1994. Other survivers include daughters Larayne Gay and Denise Lamb, both of Moultrie, and LaDonna Reyson of Springfield, Tn.; stepsons David Folson and Tim Folsom; stepdaughters Stephanie Poppell and Victoria Folsom, all of Thomasville; Brothers Billy and Thomas Hood of Houlka, Ms., Dale Hood of Wheeler, Il., and William Hood of Paris, Tx.; sisters Marcella William of Barryville, NY., Barbera Harrison of New Albany, Ms., Leigh Hutton of Lake Havasu City, Az., Johnnie Myrick of Paris, Tx. and Virginia Hallock of Fairview, Ut.; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Bobby and Bobbie Brock of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by two brothers Edgar Hood and Kenneth Hood. Wendell Cullen Gainey
Services for Wendell Cullen Gainey are at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003 at Pine Hill Baptist Church, Cairo, with Rev. Harold Combs and Rev. Tommy Willis officiating. Interment is at Gainey Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Eddie Simmons, Jr., Dana Roland, Charlie Mann, Dustin Gainous, Michael Odom, John Sessions, Dannie Lee, and Gary Gainey. Honorary pallbearers are Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Pine Hill. Mr. Gainey died Friday, Jan., 10, 2003 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 1, 1921 in Cairo, he was the son of Cullen and Velma Lane Gainey who preceded him in death. He married Ila McKown on Dec. 22, 1945, who survives. Mr. Gainey retired from Mistletoe Plantation and was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Gainey served in World War II in the Burma-China-India Theater. He was a member of the American Legion Post 122 where he served as Commander in Chief, was the district Commander in Cheif of District 2, was a member of the Calvary Lions Club and was president of the Reno Community Club.
