Services for Ester Bell Banks Childs, 82, Thomasville, are at 1 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2001, at Clifford Temple CME Church, with the Rev. Billy Holloway officiating. Burial is at 95 Cemetery. Active pallbearers include Sean Elliott, Freddie Elliott, Daymar King, Michael Elliott, Henri Childs, Marvin Ashford, Charlie Childs, Al Childs, Leroy Childs and A.J. Childs. Mrs. Childs died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born March 7, 1919, in Thomas County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Mary Banks. She lived in Thomasville her whole life and was a domestic worker. She was married to A.J. Childs Sr., who passed away June 13, 1989. Mrs. Childs also attended Archbold School. Mrs. Childs was the mother of Henry Childs, former all pro tightend with the New Orleans Saints. Survivors include daughters, Irene Ashford of Rochester, N.Y., Leona Thompson of Thomasville, Mary Clark (Wayne) of Rochester, Barbra King (Harris) of Thomasville, and Debra Yearby (Ralph) of Thomasville; sons, Charlie Childs (Alice) of Rochester, and Henry Childs (Cindy) of Lenexa, Kansas; sisters, Anna Decosey of Waverly, Fla., Charlie Lee Batson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mamie Banks of Thomasville; brother, Joseph Banks of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister-in-laws, Bertha Banks, Lucille Hicks, Margorie Mullins and Allie Mae Tillman; 31 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The body will be on view from 11 a.m. until the funeral at the church. — Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home
