Board lines up top staff

THOMASVILLE — The Thomas County Board of Education approved administrative recommendations for the next school year at its meeting on Tuesday.
System administrative roles approved were Dennis Cain, director of facilities and operations, Karen Green, director of school nutrition, and Joey Holland, director of finance.
Also approved were Teresa Lawhorne, system technology coordinator, Jean Quigg, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, Bonnie Seery, director of special education, Woody Thompson, system social worker, and Carolyn White, director of human resources.
At Hand-in-Hand Primary School, the board approved Sheila Bullington as principal and Jeanna Mayhall as pre-school coordinator. At Garrison-Pilcher Elementary School, the board approved Judy Dorris as principal, Scott James as assistant principal and Karen Kugleman as assistant principal.
The board has not approved a principal as of yet for Cross Creek Elementary. That position that will be vacant as of July 1. Lamar Matthews was approved as assistant principal, as was Mary Williams. At Central Middle School, the board approved Van Cowart as principal and Robert Dechman and Debra Knight as assistant principals.
At Thomas County Central High School, the board approved Frank Delaney as principal and Kenneth Harper as assistant principal. At CrossRoads, the Bboard approved Theo Ivey as director and Bernice Mitchell as assistant principal. Another assistant principal’s position remains vacant.
At Bishop Hall, the board approved Richard Johnson as director, and at Pathways, Ina Woodruff was approved as director. Kathy Keown was approved as the system’s director of special projects.
John Barrett and Millie Snyder, both students at Thomas County Central Middle School, were recognized at the meeting for their performances at the District Two Middle School Honor Band Competition Dec. 6 at Brooks County Middle School. The two placed first on their instruments at the competition.
Students from Thomas County High School recently were named to the District Honor Band following district competition held Jan. 4. Some 600 students participated in the competition and 180 played well enough to earn district honors.
Of the 180 students who were named to the District Honor Band, 77 of them were from Thomas County. Central students who made first chair were honored at the school board meeting.
Students placing first on their instruments at the competition were Jamie Blankenship, Laura Bozeman, Sharon Collins, Boston Foulk, Erin Hall, Josh Harnevious, Hillary Hutchinson Jamar Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Greg Long and Brandon Scheiber
Alan Hurst, a senior at Thomas County Central High, recently placed second in the Area Five Future Farmers of America Agricultural Electrical Career Development Event. The event was held Dec. 9 at ABAC. Hurst qualified for the state event held in Covington, where he took first place. Hurst won a total of $1,600 at state in scholarship money.
The Thomas County High School swim team was recognized at the meeting for individual and team performances at the Region Swim Meet held Feb. 4. Bradley Baggett, Brittany Roberts and Michael Stone were recognized for winning first place in their individual events. The relay team of Stone, Baggett, J.C. Skeen and Matthew Fletcher was recognized for winning first place as well.
