THOMASVILLE — “You Are Not Alone” was an appropriate title for Dr. Frank Glover’s urinary incontinence dinner seminar; 500 people attended the informative and free event at The Plaza Restaurant Tuesday evening.

Glover reported that half of all women develop urinary incontinence at some time in their life. Although this problem may be temporary, millions of people in the United States — both men and women — have persistent incontinence.

“This causes people to stop going to church or participating in other activities,” Glover said. “Only 10 percent of women have enough courage to ask about the problem.”

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine. Although it is a condition experienced by women of all ages, bladder control problems are not an inevitable part of growing older or of life. It is a medical condition that can be caused by many things, including pregnancy and childbirth, urinary tract or vaginal infection, weakness of sphincter muscles, hormonal deficiency and other factors.
