THOMASVILLE —
Who knew that wearing high heels requires more than good balance?
According to two Thomasville men who wore stilettos at the Thomasville High School track on Saturday, it also takes an effective strategy.
“You have to put all the pressure on the balls of your feet,” said Dominic Ford of the Thomasville Police Department’s Gang and Juvenile Unit. “You also have to stand on your tiptoes.”
Rico Walker, executive director of Relief From the Streets, agreed.
“I’ve been practicing for a while,” Walker said.
Ford and Walker participated in the third annual “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes,” an event sponsored by The Treehouse Children’s Advocacy Center of Thomas County. Its purpose is to raise awareness of rape, sexual assault and gender violence.
At least 67 men came out to support the cause by wearing high heels for a one-mile walk.
Cleburn Bannister ran the mile the fastest. In addition to high heels, he sported a mini skirt.
“This is my second time running,” Bannister said. “It was a lot easier this time, and my feet didn’t bleed as much. I’m just really glad I only have to wear high heels once a year.”
