THOMASVILLE —
Wayne Sheets has joined an exclusive club — the millionaire’s club.
On Sunday, the longtime lottery players bought a scratch-off ticket worth $3 million.
Around 8 a.m., Sheets went in to Flash Foods No. 0280 at 2667 E. Pinetree Blvd. He purchased coffee and one “$3,000,000 Taxes Paid” ticket. He returned to his car, took a sip of his java and scratched off the ticket that changed his life.
“I was in disbelief,” Sheets said. “I immediately went back inside and showed someone who was working to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating.”
He tipped the worker $100, picked up his daughter and her friend, and headed to Atlanta.
Sheets was worried his winning lottery ticket was “defective.”
“You only win $20 with defective tickets,” Sheets said. “I wanted to be at the Georgia Lottery Office first thing Monday morning. I didn’t know I could go to Tifton with this large of an amount.”
Sure enough, Sheets’ ticket was a winner.
