Rotary president eager to serve people, animals

THOMASVILLE — Carol Jones has spent her life implementing “Service Above Self,” the Rotary Club motto

Born in England, Jones moved to Germany after World War II.

“My dad was an American officer in the U.S. military. We stayed in Germany until I was 13, and then we came back to the states,” Jones said. “I can remember, as a child, trying to teach my mother German. I guess that’s when I realized I wanted to be a teacher.”

After receiving a degree in education, Jones taught respiratory therapy at Southwest Georgia Technical College

“I was a teacher for about 13 years, then I became an administrator,” Jones said. “Teaching really is a service.”

For the past two and a half years, Jones has been involved with Miss Kitty Feline Sanctuary, a non-profit, volunteer-operated, no-kill, no-cage, kitten and cat rescue organization in Thomasville.

“I volunteer at Miss Kitty where I administer most of the medications for the cats, and I finalize any adoptions,” Jones said. “I also foster kittens, which is probably the one of the best feelings I get from Miss Kitty.”

As if that isn’t enough, Jones is president of the Rotary Club of Thomasville.
