THOMASVILLE —
A Thomas County Central offensive lineman traded his pads and cleats for an opportunity of a lifetime.
Chance Sangster is foregoing his senior season with the Yellow Jackets to attend a month-long deaf ministry mission trip. It was a difficult decision but one Sangster believed he had to make.
“It's something that I've done since I was in 'Y' league,” said Sangster about playing football. “I really wasn't the best at football. I always did it with my friends and enjoyed it so much. It being my senior year, I really just wanted to finish it out, but God had a better plan for me.”
Sangster traveled to Las Vegas during the summer. That’s where he met David Bennett, the head of International Deaf Ministries. Bennett encouraged Sangster to attend a mission trip with him to Bulgaria where he could learn what it entails to be a missionary. The trip, which begins next week when he makes his flight, forced Sangster to make one of the most difficult decisions of his life. He consulted Central assistant coach and Fellowship of Christian Athletes supporter Bill Wilhelm.
