THOMASVILLE —
A performance by the legendary singer and Broadway star Barbara Cook will open the 75th Anniversary concert season of the Thomasville Entertainment Foundation on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 8 p.m. in the Thomasville Center for the Arts auditorium.
A 2011 Kennedy Center Honoree and native of Atlanta, Cook has enthralled audiences around the world for more than 50 years with her pure, silvery voice and warm stage presence.
Known as “Broadway’s favorite ingénue” during her early years, Cook played leading roles in acclaimed musicals such as “Oklahoma!,” “Carousel” and “The King and I.” She earned a Tony Award for her portrayal of Marian the Librarian in The Music Man.
In 1974, she stepped away from musical theater to begin a creative partnership with conductor Wally Harper. With this collaboration Cook reinvented herself as a concert and recording artist, and her career soared yet again.
