Goodwill Project tickets to ‘presell’ at ballgame

THOMASVILLE — For the first time in the event’s 10-year history, the Law Enforcement Goodwill Project will presell tickets at a sports event.

Tickets will be sold at the Friday Thomas County Central/Bainbridge football game.

“Kickoff is at 8, but we’ll begin selling tickets at 6,” said Joey Blackburn, a Thomasville Police Department detective.

Tickets will be sold in the ticket booth area at Yellow Jackets Stadium.

The Goodwill Project began a decade ago as a way to raise money to provide Christmas for local children who might not otherwise receive gifts.

For years, local law enforcement officers pooled their money, along with donations from citizens, to provide for the youngsters.

The Goodwill Project is an organized event that raises thousands of dollars annually through the sale of tickets for meals.

The $6,000 to $7,000 raised in 2011 provided Christmas for more than 60 children.

Tickets, which are $7, will buy a barbecue dinner that includes half a chicken, green beans, corn and cake.

Tickets will continue to be sold for the Thursday, Nov. 15, Goodwill event from 5 to 7 p.m. at the City of Thomasville Operations Building, 944 Smith Ave.

Checks will be accepted, Blackburn said.

Purchases of 10 or more tickets can be delivered by calling 227-3302 or 225-3315. Meal orders of 10 or more also can be delivered.
