THOMASVILLE —
Dale Matilla, a candidate running for Thomas County sheriff, said he has been the victim of a crime.
Matilla, who has had campaign signs up for several weeks, woke up Monday to find that nearly a dozen of his signs had been stolen off U.S. Hwy 319 and Pinetree Boulevard.
“It happened in about twenty hours,” he said. “I went to the city’s planning and zoning office to see if they had recovered any of my signs. They had some of the candidates’ signs, but not any of mine. I thought maybe I had put my signs up in location that wasn’t allowed. I’ve even thought that maybe people took them to place them in their front yards.
“I realize that this is going to happen, but it was just really irritating to lose so many [signs] in such a short period of time. It’s costly.”
Matilla isn’t going to stop putting up his signs.
“I understand this is common political practice, but I’m not a politician. I’m here to win this race. If I win, I hope I make a positive change. I feel very confident.”
