Archbold to host Health Talk on hearing loss

— Do you find it difficult to follow conversations in meetings, restaurants or noisy places? Do your family and friends get annoyed because you often ask them to repeat what they’re saying? Have you noticed the volume on your television is never quite loud enough?

If you answered yes to these questions, you should know you’re not alone.

Hearing loss affects people every day. In fact, it’s estimated that more than 34 million Americans have some form of hearing loss.

“Sometimes people think of hearing difficulties as a barrier to living life the way they want to,” said audiologist Althea Grey. “But there are many unique treatment options available, including a range of devices that can be customized to meet individual needs, that can help you hear again.”

As part of Archbold Memorial Hospital’s continuing Health Talk free community lecture series, Grey will present, “Can You Hear Me Now: Setting Yourself Free From Hearing Loss,” on Thursday.  The talk is offered free as a clinical outreach effort to uphold Archbold’s core value of Community Benefit.

Grey will discuss the causes of hearing loss and ways to help prevent it. She will also discuss the latest in hearing loss technology, including information about hearing aids and other ways to help people already suffering from hearing loss.

Grey is a board certified member of the American Academy of Audiology and she practices audiology at the Archbold Ear, Nose, Throat and Allergy Center.

To learn more about hearing loss, attend this Health Talk. The lecture will begin at 6 p.m. and be held in the Williams Auditorium East Tower at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Dinner will be served.

Pre-registration is requested; call 229-227-5140.
