THOMASVILLE —
More than 2,000 people are expected to take part in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life on Friday at the Thomasville High Track. The organization has set a goal of raising $70,000 in the fight against cancer.
Teams made up of businesses, schools, churches, families and other volunteers across the community will take turns walking and even jogging around a track and camping out in tents and other makeshift accommodations during the event.
The opening ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the Survivor Celebratory Lap that will allow the community to cheer on cancer survivors as they take the first lap around the track to mark the start of the Relay For Life.
Next, caregivers will take a lap signifying their part in the journey. Then the Relay teams will begin circling the Relay track and will continue until 6 a.m. Saturday.
