THOMASVILLE —
Mass murders do not take place at National Rifle Association meetings, law enforcement gatherings or firing ranges.
“We don’t have a gun problem. We have a people problem,” said Rex Smith, owner of Rex’s Tools, Guns, Consignment & Pawn, 1425H E. Jackson St.
Smith’s firearm sales are up 25 percent since the Nov. 6 general election.
“It’s because we’re living in a scared society, and people are talking about that UN (United Nations) ban,” Smith explained.
A UN ban would overrule the Second Amendment, Smith said, adding that citizens of UN countries would not be able to own firearms.
Smith sold 30 firearms the week of the election.
U.S. President Barack Obama said during debates he would ban “black guns” if re-elected, Smith said.
The AR-15, AK-47 and SKS are black guns.
“They all hold 30 rounds, and they can be made fully automatic,” Smith said, displaying one of the large black firearms.
The businessowner wears a loaded .380 pistol in a holster on his belt.
“The only time I take it off is on Sunday,” Smith explained.
