THOMASVILLE —
The newest scam is someone posing as a representative of a cell phone provider.
“They say that your account is OK, but your last payment was short $10 or $20, or your last payment has not been received,” said Capt. Steven Jones, Thomas County Sheriff’s Office public information officer.
The scammer attempts to get would-be victims to pay the difference with a credit card on the phone.
“They also try to convince you they need your Social Security number to access the account,” Jones said.
Beware, the officer said, and do not fall prey to the callers.
