THOMASVILLE —
This week, Thomas University personnel welcomed Michael Rayburn as the new Director of Financial Aid.
“Michael’s extensive and well-rounded experience in financial aid, his leadership abilities, data systems expertise, and his student-centered philosophy made him the right choice to be our new financial aid director,” said Dr. Vivian Gallman-DeRienzo, vice president for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs. “We are pleased to have him join our Enrollment Management and Student Affairs team.”
Rayburn, a native of Thomasville, has more than two decades of experience in higher education financial aid.
He previously served as financial aid director for 10 years at Southwest Georgia Technical College and at Wiregrass Technical College as vice president of Student Services, which included admissions, financial aid, developmental studies and adult literacy.
A graduate of Thomas County Central High School, Rayburn earned a bachelor’s degree in special education from Valdosta State University and a master’s degree in marketing education from the University of Georgia.
Rayburn said he enjoys working in financial aid because of the students.
“It’s so rewarding to see students come through who wouldn’t be able to complete their education without financial aid,” he said. “To see them gain those skills and knowledge and then graduate. That’s so rewarding.”
Rayburn and his wife of 38 years, Shirley, live in rural Thomas County. They are the parents of a son and two daughters.
