THOMASVILLE —
In the entertainment industry, a “triple threat” is the term for an individual who can act, sing and dance.
Thomasville is about to lose a triple threat when Brookwood School senior Audrey Simmons graduates in May and leaves for her higher education.
Simmons has received the Trustee Scholarship at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pa., to pursue her Fine Arts Degree in dance with a minor in musical theater. The coveted scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence and demonstrated talent.
Her audition in Philadelphia was a day-long process, beginning with three dance classes taught and adjudicated by the department heads of each genre, followed by a solo presentation and personal interview with the dean of the School of Dance and the department heads. The University of the Arts traces its roots back to 1870 and is one of the only universities in the United States solely dedicated to educating creative individuals in the visual and performing arts and design.
