In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Archbold Memorial Hospital presented “A Pink Affair” on Friday Oct. 26. Over 200 guests dressed in a variety of pink attire to watch the fashion show featuring eighteen cancer survivors. Pink lights and pink drinks were just a few of the decorations. Nearly $5,000 was raised to cover the cost for those unable to afford a mammogram.
Steven Johnson, MD, Medical Director of Radiation Oncology, and Gail Eubanks, a breast cancer survivor emceed the event. Seven years ago, Gail Eubanks, then 44, was diagnosed with breast cancer after performing a self-breast exam. “I didn’t say anything about it for a couple of months thinking that it would go away, and it never did,” Eubanks said. “My doctors at Archbold were amazing. The whole experience made a better person out of me.”
Johnson was thrilled to be at “A Pink Affair.” “It pumps me up,” Johnson said. “I see people I have treated that have survived. We’ve treated 15,000 people since we opened the center. Probably out of that, four to five thousand are breast patients.”
