Jones gets the maximum sentence

THOMASVILLE — The maximum sentence was handed down Monday in a 2010 murder case in which the suspect was found guilty last week of killing a teenage boy.

Judge James E. “Jim” Hardy sentenced Xavier Rashard Jones, 19, to a merged sentence of life in prison on murder and armed robbery convictions, a consecutive 25 years for an aggravated assault conviction and five years, consecutive, on a conviction of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Jones was convicted in the July 2010 killing of 15-year-old Christopher Crumbry Jr., an Orlando Fla., resident, who was in Thomasville visiting his father for the summer.

Prior to sentencing, Tyrone White, the dead teen’s great-uncle, addressed the court.

“ ... You took a life,” White said, looking at Jones. “You cannot give one back.”
