THOMASVILLE —
The person who stole a credit card from a vehicle Tuesday wasted no time using it at a Thomasville business.
"We know he's using a credit card stolen from a purse that was in a car," said Louis Schofill, Thomasville Police Department detective.
The credit card was stolen Tuesday and used within hours at Walmart to purchase a black light and an extension cord.
The theft took place at a Covington Avenue residence.
Schofill said the suspect is believed to be between 17 and 21 years of age.
The city has been plagued by a number of thefts from vehicles and by vehicle break-ins since before Christmas. Some vehicles entered were unlocked. Those that were locked were entered by force. Bricks were thrown through vehicle windows in a recent rash of the thefts.
The activity is not confined to any one sector of the city, but has occurred throughout Thomasville.
Detectives do not know if the Tuesday credit card theft was another in the string of thefts or if it was an isolated incident.
"We're working on that," Schofill explained. "We're trying to determine if this is related. We're not saying it is. We're not staying it isn't, either."
A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 227-3305 or police at 227-3249.
Information will remain confidential.
