THOMASVILLE —
Southwest Georgia Technical College officials have named Nichole Sanders, RN, BSN, the Practical Nursing (PN) Program director. Sanders has been a PN instructor for the last five years at SWGTC of Grady County and has now moved to the main campus in Thomasville to assume her new role.
Sanders said, “I was delighted to be promoted to the PN director at the main campus. It has been a long time since I actually worked in the same town that I live! I look forward to the many challenges of the PN director position while continuing to teach the next generation of nurses who are going to take care of us in the not too distant future.”
Sanders graduated from Baylor University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1978 after completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education at Southern Methodist University. She has extensive nursing experience and has worked in surgery, labor and delivery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, among other specialties. Sanders has also held positions as a nurse consultant, nurse manager, case manage, and as a clinical liaison in nursing informatics.
In addition to her instructing duties, as the PN director, Sanders is responsible for maintaining compliance with the State standards for Practical Nursing Programs. She also serves as the contact person with the Georgia Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses and is responsible for the annual report to the board about the College’s PN programs — both at SWGTC of Grady and the main campus in Thomasville.
SWGTC’ s PN Program is designed to prepare students to provide competent nursing care to all patients they encounter. Instructors use a variety of techniques and materials necessary to assist the student in acquiring the needed knowledge and skills to give this care. Clinical experiences are also required so that theory and practice are integrated under the guidance of the clinical instructor. Program graduates receive a practical nursing diploma and have the qualifications of an entry-level practical nurse. They are also prepared to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).
For more information on the Practical Nursing program at SWGTC, please contact Sanders at (229) 225-5090 or nsanders@southwestgatech.edu.
SWGTC offers more than 80 certificate, diploma, and degree programs.
Many of these programs provide training for some of the nation’s fastest-growing career fields including Nursing, Automotive Technology, Clinical Laboratory Technology, and Emergency Medical Technology. More information may be obtained by calling 229-225-4096 or by logging onto www.southwestgatech.edu.
