THOMASVILLE —
Traffic jams, searches for parking spaces, traffic and brisk — sometimes hectic — shopping activity were the rule Friday.
The day after Thanksgiving is commonly known as black Friday, the day that puts and keeps many merchants in black ink year-round.
However, Gene Kowalski, Belk Department Store manager, described the day as “gray Friday.”
“People are basically shopping right through the holiday season,” Kowalski explained.
The holiday shopping experience is not a particular day or item, but a “wide-open season,” he added.
More than 1,000 customers were waiting when Belk opened at midnight Thursday. Shoppers began to gather outside about 7 p.m.
Tootsie Bower, a Brooks County resident, and her daughter, Jeannie Edwards, of Cumming, were looking at women’s apparel midmorning Friday.
Bower and Edwards traditionally shop together the day after Thanksgiving. And they are serious about looking for bargains.
