THOMASVILLE — Wednesday’s Thomasville City Council informational workshop garnered participation from local law enforcement agencies, members of a civic club, and some interested residents on the agenda item regarding school resource officers funding for the Thomasville City School System.

Members of the Thomasville Police Department — including resource officer Dominic Ford — gave the council and the audience presentations on what SROs do and how the program works, as well as how its funding compares to other areas SRO programs.

Several participants spoke about the importance of the school resource officer program within the system and one resident spoke in support of the school system.

A program funding agreement had not been reached between the city and the school system as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

But, one city official set the record straight about whether or not the SROs would still be in the schools as of today.

“At no time have we said we’re going to pull SROs out of the schools,” Councilman Roy Campbell said.

SROs continue to work within the system today.
