Something for everyone

THOMASVILLE — From roasted corn-on-the-cobb and earrings made from fishing lures to doggie duds and sand art, Paradise Park offered something for everyone on Saturday.

Farther north on Broad Street, car and truck fanciers shared their shiny modes of transportation with people who stopped to look at the vehicles and chat with the owners.

The Rose City Band performed music of many kinds at the entrance of the big, white tent housing the Civic Garden Club Flower Show. People sat on benches nearby and listened to the musicians.

Brenda Thompson, a Tallahassee, Fla., resident, experienced her first Rose Festival Paradise Park event Saturday morning.

“This is my first time,” Thompson explained. “I love it.”

Thompson purchased an ear of roasted corn from Janice and Ronald Dady of Bonifay, Fla., who roast the corn on site in a big, green oven topped with a large blow-up ear of corn, season it and dip it in butter.

“It’s early in the morning for corn,” Mr. Dady explained, adding that business would pick up as lunchtime approached.

Thomasville resident James Smith attends the Rose Festival Paradise Park event annually for one reason — the food.

Teriyaki stir-fry was among his choices Saturday, but his favorite is the chicken pita. “He’s not here this year,” a disappointed Smith said, in reference to the pita vendor.
