Club to honor baseball legend

CAIRO — Boys & Girls Club of Cairo-Grady County will honor legendary Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson with a fundraising tribute dinner and activities day for kids and families on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16. The event will be commemorated by the club reintroducing itself to the community as the “Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club of Cairo-Grady County.”

The baseball legend’s daughter and MLB Educational Programming consultant Sharon Robinson will attend with representatives from Major League Baseball and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The two-day event will be highlighted by an unveiling of a new youth baseball field on club grounds, which is being renovated through significant donations by The Scotts Company, the official Lawn Care Company of MLB, and other activities designed for youth and families. Jackie Robinson, who was born in Cairo, broke baseball’s color barrier on April 15, 1947 and was enshrined into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in 1962.

This event aims to create new opportunities for the youth in the Cairo-Grady community through baseball and softball programs while encouraging teamwork and leadership skills. Such activities reinforce positive behavior and promote brighter futures. The Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club Tribute Dinner and associated festivities include:
