THOMASVILLE —
The City of Thomasville has received a shipment of four compressed natural gas-powered sanitation trucks — vehicles that will save thousands of dollars in fuel costs.
With delivery of the trucks, the city moves one step closer to fulfilling the commitment to reduce its carbon footprint.
Each cleaner-burning CNG powered truck will conserve an estimated 300 barrels of oil annually. The city plans to convert its entire sanitation fleet to CNG during the next few years.
“We are excited about converting our sanitation fleet to CNG. This conversion to CNG allows us to make a service we already provide cleaner without requiring us to raise rates or sacrifice service,” said Thomasville Mayor Max Beverly.
In addition to environmental benefits, the CNG-powered trucks are expected to provide annual fuel savings estimated at $52,500 for the four trucks in inventory, meaning the trucks will pay for themselves in about five years.
