THOMASVILLE —
Law enforcement officers and medical personnel are undergoing training a community hopes will never be put into action.
In the wake of a school shooting in Newtown, Conn., patrol officers are involved in “active shooter” training this week.
“We are teaching patrolmen how to respond in the event there is a similar event here,” said Lt. Tim Watkins, Thomas County Sheriff’s Office chief investigator and training course instructor.
Officers from Grady and Colquitt counties also are training here, and emergency medical service personnel are involved, as well.
Watkins said a Wednesday Thomasville incident could have been even more tragic had it continued at the day care center where it began.
