THOMASVILLE —
The Thomasville City Council on Monday will consider final reading of an ordinance to increase rates for several city utilities.
The council will consider increases to electric, water, sewer, solid waste and cable television rates.
No rate hike is proposed for natural gas, Internet, telephone or telecommunications services.
Assistant City Manager Lynn Williams said rate adjustments are necessary to cover rising costs of power and other supply expenses, as well as increased costs related to maintenance and operations.
The city’s electric rates are raised to reflect increased power costs and recommendations resulting from a recent cost-of service study performed by Electric Cities of Georgia.
The study was performed to ensure the city’s electric rates are recovering the cost to serve each customer class. New rates being considered represent an overall increase in current electric revenues — about 2 percent.
