THOMASVILLE —
Thomas County Central High School has launched a robotics program with the help of a grant funded by the LEGO Foundation. Four members of the Thomas County Central’s inaugural robotics team attended the FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC®) Kickoff event held at Southern Polytechnic University in Marietta earlier this month.
At the event, the playing field and game plan were revealed and students asked questions about the rules of the challenge.
“I am glad that we now know the challenges that we have to meet; I can’t wait to start designing our robot,” said freshman member Kacy Jones.
FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring young people to become science and technology leaders. Founder Dean Kamen hopes "To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders." Because this is the first year for the robotics program at TCCHS, the LEGO Foundation provided a grant to help the program get started.
