THOMASVILLE —
Cynthia Chaney has filled the Meigs mayoral post since August 2012.
On Tuesday, she was elected to the position by a 23-vote margin in a contest with challenger Linda Eason-Harris in a 22.7 percent voter turnout.
Chaney, 42, was elected to Meigs City Council in November 2010. She was named mayor pro tem in January 2012.
Chaney has been acting mayor since Andrew Wurst, former mayor, resigned in August.
The new mayor will serve the remainder of Wurst’s term, which ends Dec. 31. The next Meigs mayoral race — for a four-year term — is in November.
See Thursday's edition for more details.
