THOMASVILLE —
The AMC television network was dropped from Dish’s channel lineup right before AMC’s “Breaking Bad” premiere, outraging many TV viewers. DISH claimed that AMC’s contract had expired and it didn’t want to pay the increased cost for AMC’s programming.
Today, AMC and its fans are fighting back.
For the past few weeks, 208 videos have been entered in AMC’s viral video contest, “Hey Dish, Where’s My AMC?” Participants submitted a 30- to 90-second video expressing how DISH subscribers feel now that they have lost shows like “The Walking Dead,” “Breaking Bad,” “Mad Men” and “Hell on Wheels.”
Brookwood School and Valdosta State University graduate Dustin Maeno, 26, not only entered the competition, but on Monday his submission had drawn the fourth-most votes (314) and 2,439 views.
“I created a video for this contest that has actually been doing well in the competition,” Maeno said. “We shot ‘We are the Walking Dead for AMC’ all in one day. We edited it in three [days], and we shot the entire video in my living room. I got the idea from one of my favorite shows, ‘The Walking Dead.’ I thought to myself, if you were safe in your house, what would make you go outside and fight the zombies that were surrounding your house?
“In the video, I wanted to get the point across that we love AMC that much that we would brave going outside in this fictitious world where the dead have risen. We love the idea that you would do anything for your favorite programming. It’s just really cool to see the process of something that you just had an idea about turn into something that people watch. Our video is really funny. It’s over the top, but it just shows that AMC is important to us. They put pride in telling a good story.”
