Yellow Jackets, Syrupmakers to prevail

THOMASVILLE — Ten games down, five to go. That’s the hope for two area teams as they begin their playoff run tonight.

Thomas County Central will host Creekside, while Cairo will play host to Riverdale.

For the Yellow Jackets, it's a tough first-round opponent, following a loss in last week's Region 1-AAAAA championship game against Harris County. Creekside may be 7-3 but features talent and athleticism all over the field. As good as Eric Berry was in high school, his two brothers, Evan and Elliot, may be just as dangerous. They'll have the ball all the time as one is the quarterback and the other is running back. Central's defense will be tested for sure.

On offense, the Yellow Jackets must find the rhythm they had before last week's struggles against the Tigers. Central can not turn the ball over four times or commit costly penalties at the worst of times. A big advantage for the Yellow Jackets is the type of offense they run. Not many teams run the veer option so this may be the first time the Seminoles have seen this type of offense. That could play a huge role tonight. If Creekside gets smacked in the mouth consistently, how it responds will tell the tale.

Central 28, Creekside 25
