THOMASVILLE —
College football means a new start for three Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets.
Two are bound for Massachusetts. One is set to suit up for a first-time program. All three made their collegiate decisions known on Wednesday when they inked letters-of-intent.
Running back James Davis and linebacker Jonathan Esther signed with Dean College in Franklin, Mass., while offensive lineman Zach Davison inked with Reinhardt University in Waleska.
It is not the first time a pair of Central teammates will team together in college. Several years ago, Debrale Smiley and Anthony McCloud signed with Itawamba Community College in Mississippi before transferring to Florida State University. As Central coach Bill Shaver attests, having that support system will be important for Davis and Esther as they move up north.
“Just having somebody when you’re going back to your dorm room at night, that’s somebody you’ve seen your whole life, it’s got to make you feel more comfortable,” Shaver said. “If you go off all by yourself, you never know if you’re going to last.”
Davis expressed excitement about moving away from home.
“It’s a great feeling. It’s a chance for me to get out of Georgia and explore different places,” Davis said. “It’s going to be fun. I’m ready for it.”
