THOMASVILLE —
The first step in Thomas County Central’s trek to the state wrestling meet starts on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets wrestling team will travel to the area meet in Leesburg.
Two standouts have a shot at an area title for the Yellow Jackets. Senior Peyton Glass is 28-0 and senior Connor Bennett is 23-3. Both medalled at last year’s state tournament. Both are expected to excel.
“I’m expecting them to finish first place and be area champions,” said Central wrestling coach Bill Wilhelm. Of Bennett’s three losses, two were decided by one point and another by three. Wilhelm said Bennett’s toughest challenger could come against Warner Robins, though Bennett beat him at the Blue Devil Invitational in Tifton earlier this year.
Wilhelm also expressed confidence in his other wrestlers.
