CAIRO —
It wasn’t the lesson Cairo coach Ron Best was hoping for the Syrupmakers to learn Tuesday.
But after CHS watched a 5-0 lead turn into a 6-5 loss to rival Bainbridge at Jackie Robinson Field, there is plenty for the Syrupmakers to take away.
“Getting into a real tight, pressure game with a rival and a big crowd with everybody screaming, that’s good practice for us,” Best said. “Obviously, we want to win and disappointed that we did not win. But from a coaching standpoint, hopefully we’ll learn what we didn’t execute and then hopefully execute better the next time we’re in that situation.”
Those miscues definitely haunted Cairo, which fell to 3-2, as the Bearcats took advantage of the 10 walks Cairo pitchers handed out. Bainbridge drew five walks in the final inning alone as it scored the two runs to complete its rally.
