THOMASVILLE —
One of the top defenses in Region 1-AAAAA featured the area's best defender, Jamal McNeil.
It showed by McNeil's stats. The defensive lineman tallied four sacks, three tackles for loss and two quarterback pressures. McNeil was also praised by his coaches for his dominant senior season
“Our best defensive football player was McNeil,” Central defensive coordinator Cliff Heard said, “there's no doubt. We had a (coaches) meeting and we voted, and it was unanimous that our best football player on defense was McNeil.
“He plays with great leverage. He uses his hands as good as any defensive lineman I've ever coached. If he was 6-2, there wouldn't be a college in America that wouldn't offer him a scholarship,” Heard added. “He's short. He's 5-9½, 5-10. We're going to have to work real hard to find him a place to go to school because of his height.”
