THOMASVILLE —
Jim Hall, or “Big Jimmy” as known by his friends, participated in the USPF Power lifting and Iron Man competition last Saturday at Saint George Island.
Hall, 68, wowed the crowd with his feats of strength, as he nearly doubled the prior world record for his age group by bench-pressing his body weight nearly two dozen times in a row.
“This can be a little painful, but the pain drives me through it,” Hall said. “Having both good cardio vascular training as well as power makes this a specialty for me. A lot of power lifters focus only on power. This is a test of both power and endurance.”
Hall won first place in his age group setting a new national record as well as winning the coveted, “Best lifter over all Master Division.” His hoist of 325 pounds was far from his best, but more than enough to impress.
“Most power lifters train for years and work to peak their strength on the day of the lift.” said Hall.
